Hey all, you may have noticed the links tab in the bottom right of the webpage. Well thats the start for the new module that I am making to allow for websites to be added by users and be moderated by admins. So start making up your Thumb Nail Icon for your website!
PS: If anyone is better at thumbs than I am, not hard, could someone plz make us one?

Ok to let everyone know, the links is now working. Please remember that once you add a link it has to be moderated by the moderators here. And it can be deleted at any point. So please be patient. For those of us who are moderators, you should have access to the Moderate Links and Delete Links. This information will be tracked.

what size are the images supposed to be?
i noticed my normal 'button' image thats 88x31 gets stretched a little bit

I take it that you added the 2 x icons that are there now, I have a small error in the code at the moment, it doesn't tell me who added / approved them. I want to figure this out. As well do others see the Add Site?

Ok, I finally figured out how to do this properly, and so I will be updating this again. Once I get a bit more knowledge on it. At the moment its really hacked together, but working. So stand by for version 2!

Ya, I added and approved my own...
To the person who submitted the shadow panthers one... your image is broken and therefore can not be approved in that condition...
I have to make sure to put some info on that page so ppl only put correct info.

I'm in the process of making a website for mapping, modeling, customizing, etc. for DOD. If you guys have any links to tutorials, tools, models, etc. send them to me please. I want to try and put together an archive of DOD stuff.

Dont forget to add your website link to our links area. I am slowly converting it to template based system, so if you get it at the right time we will have it up asap!

I got my DOD archive site up but it still needs work. The site is still being worked on and I'm still trying to find as much stuff as I can to put on it.
Anyway I tried to add my site to the links thing on the left, but when i hit the "add site" button it said I do not have permission to access the page.
Ok, have been doing so much work on that, I hit one of the wrong check boxes. You should be able to get there now.
I am receiving an database error page. I tried it twice, both times it did not work.
Yes your SHORT name is NOT short. Its suppose to be short for a reason.

There is no any information provided which I could find where it says something should be short. I assume you are talking about the website name?
Yes my apologies I changed it....it use to say short name for the website name, the length is like 20 characters....will have to fix that.

Because I could ask a few people from my community. I know they are pretty good at photoshop.
Nah I got the original one from diamonds site, he still had it. So its perfect. Thx though.

Ok so I'm finally ready to release the link to my site: http://dodarchive.com/ and I also added the link in the Links section here.
Now its still in the early stages but it works. If you have anything you want added to it or if you think you can help out with it, visit our forums.
BTW I remember promising a donation to DOD Plugins and I will donate as soon as my stupid paypal account gets straightened out :p

just in reply to links post mainly if i add the code here to add my site to it could 1 of the admins add it for me ive tried and i can see tatsu says above my link was broken if someone would add it for me please lemmy know and i will post the code i have tried to re add it but it says website already exists any one got any ideas there lol

Be nice if we could edit these.
Actually I used copy and paste for that link and it still is loaded so to speak and it is correct.
An edit would not be a bad idea imo. Images and imagelocation with me change by the day and a little edit of your own image would work for me. Don't know if you feel the same or even feel like looking into it.

it would be nice.. maybe zor can add that to it..
as an admin i can 'edit' them.. but the edit page only lets me delete or disable them, it doesnt let me actually edit any of the fields

The image is one part we can edit, just replace the one hosted with another with the same name.
I have next week off...will have a look at it...the problem is that I dont understand exactly how to get the user ID, if I get that correct then we are in the game as then I can just check to see if this is the same cat that added the link and let them edit it...I also have to get rid of the javascript that keeps clearing links when you click in the box.

This is kinda sad but I only understood half you were saying. I just wanted to let you know that your work is very much appriciated.
Sorry all, was doing some work on the Links today, and lost everyones links ... I will be doing further work on it and will be allowing individuals to change their own links shortly. At the moment the changed include:
- Moved the Moderate / Edit / Delete to under each button for moderators.
- Colour coded the links in need of moderation to a dark grey background
- Colour coded a flipping color for each link, link 1 light grey back, link 2 white back, etc
ToDo
- Make it so ppl who added the link can edit or delete their own links along with moderators
Ok, have the ToDo done...hehehe
You can now add your links again. I also fixed the shadow panthers problem. It was looking to see if it had an www. where your website didn't, that is now fixed.

I just tried adding a site just after you writing your post, here are my findings/opinions:
If I use the name "Bad Ass Mofo's" (without the quotes) it doesn't work but if I type "BAM" (without the quotes) it does work. The error shown using "Bad Ass Mofo's" is a database error. (If the name is too long or does not fit the all-age policy, then my bad)
One other thing, this is just my opinion, I believe developers have earned the right to add their sites first or at least change their orders. Not everyone is using a 25" screen, so if people open this website, that the first website they will see are the developers ones and then just from the regular users.
Last thing, adding how many characters a name may be and what the dimensions of the image should be (perhaps size).
PS: Im an idiot, links added are first moderated thats why its not showing up.
Ok I have fixed that Tank, it was a programming error, I had to get PHP to use addslashes function on the name you put it. You should be able to edit it now, I will check to make sure the function is in the add as well.

I dont want to rush you but as it seems we are online at the same time and you are working on this one, you might wanted feedback right away.
At this moment of writing I do not have the right user priveledges to edit my own posted link. I see the link for edit but it returns me to a page where is shows either my account is not active or I dont have enough priveledges

I know like any person that updates/changes never work at the first run nor can be done in a split second. So I don't know at what point you are at making the changes.
I made a screenshot what I see when I click edit. I dont need to edit anything at this point, just providing with found bugs on my side.

Yeah 101 is gone now, its the test for the flipper variable. Not sure why its not letting you in, are you a promoted user? You should be....all the variables seem to work. Will have to look at the code.
Ok, works now for me, didn't do enough testing on that part of the module. Oh well. So, now, lets see if you can edit your own. Do you see the edit button under any of the other icons?
I dont know what you mean with being a promoted user. I lost my noobie rank by posting stuff but thats about it.
What I see is the images to the links to other clans/communities. I see my own link with the word "edit" below it. Once I click it, it forwards me to another page, but the entire mid-section is empty.
So when I press the button I only see the portal around the forums. I dont see any page on the forums, it's just blank.
Ok, it is now fixed up. Indeed it was a programming error as I suspected. I had to completely uninstall and reinstall the application. Oh well! May make it a bit smaller now.

Nice job, I kinda tracked the progress, basicly saw some error pages and stuff but it works smooth now, Cheerio Mate, cheerio.
Yeah, thx for the bugs, it helps when I have someone else testing stuff as I go. Its a bit cobbled at the moment, and I may make it all into one page to make shit easier, that will be the next version. Then I can distribute it to the vBAdvanced community.

So, please can someone delete the "2.SS Das Reich" link!!
Alone the Name is a cause, but look at the page, there is the swastika (Hakenkreuz). It is illegal and punishable!!!!!

Perhaps not my place to reply as I don't want to start a discussion but please bare in mind that the 2.SS Das Reich is a realism unit trying to achieve as much as realism within the game as in the community.
As you can see his community theme is German. The swastika and SS logo you are referring to are only illegal and punishable in Germany (therefor when launching Day of Defeat they changed both flag as object icons to the "Iron Cross" to also be able to sell the game in Germany).
I wanted to comment this but will leave it up to developers/admins of these forums to answer this one.

I think the swastika and other nazi symbols are not only in germany illegal. I have read that they want to achieve as much as realism ... but why are there only german symbols?? Where are the symbols of the other countries??
In the header are only german stuff, isn't it curious?!!
I don't know about other countries. There are quite some articles around who only talk about Germany making swastika's and other German WWII related symbols illegal mainly to not be reminded by their horrible past. The only thing they have not changed after WWII was their national anthem.
Well, this is the thing, im not really known with Realism Units and all. But I think the most outstanding realism unit out here is 29th ID by Wilson and his community. As you visit his website you will only see Allied symbols.
Basicly realism units are almost always (or always) linked to a division, group, unit from WWII. 29th ID was an infantry division, the 2nd SS Division Das Reich was a real division who fought its battles in WWII. The reason why you only see German symbols is imho rather clear, they try to simulate a German division from WWII.

i dont see any reason to remove it lol... if you cant handle seeing a swastika.. maybe a WWII game isnt for you
its not like they're telling ppl to go out and persecute people that are jewish or anything like that... and just because its illegal in some countries (not sure totally which, tho i do know germany, denmark, brazil, and i would assume israel as well), doesnt mean its illegal in all..
no one is making you or anyone else goto the site, and if you do goto it by your own choice, you can close it down if you dont like what you see..
and so what if there isnt any other symbols from other countries on the site, theres plenty of clans & such that do the same, and theres also even more that dont have any german symbols at all.. its just a video game...
..this is a bit out of context, but theres swastika-type symbols all over the world that have nothing to do with nazism, but ppl still get all offended by them even tho theyve been in use for 1000's of years (take a look at most temples in india, tho the nazi version of the swastika i believe is rotated like 45degrees)
Perhaps an addition to the links: tooltips (little text box showing up when someone hovers over a link).
The tooltips could perhaps explain the user what kind of website they are about to see. You could think about tooltips like:
Not suitable for ages below 18+ (if it contains mature graphics or mature text) or perhaps tooltips explaining in a few words what the community is aiming for (24/7 ava, custom map, realism unit etc.).
Will look into that.

Zor was working on those links and I think somewhere a few got lost of them. I received a PM that my link was removed and had to be readded. Perhaps same counts for you.
Yeah I was testing some the new way to moderate the sites and clicked on the wrong site and lost yours tank. Thats the only one I remember. Need to make another one that only admins can put stuff into. This one will be for the sponsor sites. Such as the google thing at the top and for others who are willing to sponsor us...or some such...duno...
