View Full Version : A nice xmas map

Been in touch with the creator of dod_xmastown, ArizonaRedneck.
He told me his xmastown map hasn't worked since a dod update some years ago. Using info I got here, from Tank, DO and others, and bspedit, I finally got it to run on my server.
Heres a link if anyone wants to try it out, and let me know if there's any problem.

Updated the .zip and added some missing models and sprites.

Just installed the map as per file structure, on map change, it's crashing the server and timing out.

Any idea's?.

I have it running on my server, but some people having issues. Gonna look at it today.

EDIT: Installed it on another steam account and it locks up but runs on my server and my account. I'll find it!

@ ba5ic look in gsconsole.log in your dod folder on the server. search for FATAL ERROR and it says what missing...

I can't see a gsconsole.log file in the dod folder on me server?.

hum... i have one.. yea in the dod folder with all the .wad files, server.cfg etc.

the gsconsole.log might only be for servers hosted by gameservers.com idk...

We have 3 steam accounts, so testing on my sons. Map runs on my server, and on my account as new map. On his it runs on the server just fine, but not when I run it as a new map. His error log just gives the
Error:Failed to load dialog file Resource/UI/ClassMenu.res

So anybody know what to do?
There were some missing models, and sprites in the first .zip, and reposting that now, but I don't understand why it only runs on my server, and my account.

In dev, i get these warnings.

WARNING! xmastown/panzerlied.wav is causing runtime sample conversion!
WARNING! xmastown/tnt_timer.wav is causing runtime sample conversioion!

make a res file and see if the are located right... runtime sample conversion!
humm never seen that before...might be some kinda wrong wav format with too high rate or so... try and replace them with some that u are 100% sure that works... U might wanna replace the name in the bsp aswell to be sure that ppl dl the right sounds... just an idea...

thats what ive noticed to meathead, you have a res in resources ive tryed to put that in the maps folder with the bsp. still times out the server. hope you figure it out we need another xmas map.

Thoroughly confused also. Had the creator, Arizona redneck on last nightplaying it, but no other server can.It has to be something simple.

I installed this map on one of my windows servers, when it was posted. It runs fine. After reading the rest of this I tried it on one of my linux servers. The map crashes the server instantly. Doing a changlevel with hlsw I get this error:

Host_Error: PF_precache_model_I: Model 'models/mapmodels/null.mdl' failed to precache because the item count is over the 512 limit.
Reduce the number of brush models and/or regular models in the map to correct this.

This is a large map and is exceeding the precash limit. The windows server I ran it on has few plugins and the linux has several, I hope this helps.

Has anybody tried it since I added the missing models?
My server is a linux , btw. Hopefully that was all it needed.
That should fix the server crashing. I still have a problem with
some computers, if not on a dedicated server, freezing up during the opening scene.

also crashes for me due to being over the 512 limit as psycho stated


if i disable all my plugins that precache models it seems to runs fine, but i didnt really play it at all

stay with it you must be getting close

if youre getting errors for being over the 512 precache limit, theres nothing he can do to fix that unless you remove models from the bsp file itself

you shouldnt be getting that error with amxx disabled or with plugins that precache models disabled (at least enough plugins disabled to put you back under the 512 count)

I have the V2 or parra_xmastown version running fine on Linux but stalls under windows server when a player joins a team. Too bad tho because the cut scene effect at the start reminds me ol DoD in the old'n days of cutscenes. Sadly the cut scene only seems to play on the first map load and not cap outs.

Ours runs every round. I had to get rid of the wind sound though, and the snow to get it to run.
I've got another by Arizona Redneck I'm trying to get running again called Graceland. Got the early version running, but still testing and trying to get the later versions working. Another funny cut scene at the beginning.
