Is this function totally wrecked in DoD (1.3)? Has anyone ever used it in a map? I have used func_train before, but func_tracktrain makes the object turn and angle towards the next pathway.
I made a simple room with a platform and several pathpoints. Loaded the map in Half-Life, and it works as a charm.
Loaded it in DoD, and the platform starts turned up-side down, and buried in the ground, not functioning.
This would be such an awesome function and it would make adding moving tanks to levels an easy task, and a fun innovation too. In half-life the func_tracktrain even has controls for speeds and forward/backward..... Is it possible or must this stay a dream..?

First off check the Navigation on the left and check out the VERC. func_tracktrain is there. What I think is that the HL version of that entity is different from the one for DOD, I could be wrong. If you got that option working and then add another place with a use, IE while pushing that use the tank fires! Wow that would be a cool new way to change the dod_jagd map. Make the tanks go after the documents, and the whole time the allies have to protect the tanks. Have the allies spawn near the tanks via a plugin, or just get them to spawn at the home base, that would leave the tanks undefended if so. Anyway! Great idea!

I don't believe its fully usable. I messed with it when I converted de_survivor to DOD. The eagle flying overhead uses a func_tracktrain. And while it works OK before the round starts, once players join and the round starts, it resets and freezes up. So I just used a func_train.
I haven't tried it, but it may be able to be refired it via a plugin.

Oh man that would be so awesome. Do you think it would take a lot of work? I'll chip in a request in the plugin request forum.

Yea. Originally I used func_train to make a tank go from A-B in a straight line, but that gives a really limited use for it. And it feels just... so... hopeless... that the same entity works in HL and even in CS (I think), and that it would be so perfect to make tanks with. My idea was just to have tanks that could be user activated and moving, and the team could use it as cover for movement. But if the controls that are present in HL (forward, backward, speed controls) we could even make it "drivable", i.e. having a guy dropping into the tank controlling the speed. He would not be able to choose the paths but still..
I heard somewhere that they ruined func_tracktrain on purpose for DoD so we would be unable to make tanks.... Believing this or not depends on your fascination for conspiracy theories :D

Yes, I'm aware. (http://www.dodplugins.net/forums/showpost.php?p=11019&postcount=7) And I really appreciate you folks doing that. However the site I pointer to is the Half-Life archive which has a lot more info on the implementation of the entities and their keys. When G gets done with the DOD part, the HL would be a nice addition.
Yes indeed, my appologies. I just finished the DOD part yesterday. Going to go after the HL part now. Thinking on making a php page to strip the data from the pages and upload it to the DB which will be one hell of alot quicker.

I hoped this would fix a problem I'm working on also. Path_corner instead of path_track. I changed it in the plugin, but it still locks up client, but not server. It's an opening cutscene from another older map I'm trying to get to run.
If I take this out it runs fine.
I doubt it will fix the crash problem, but I noticed that there was no targetname key for 'a2' or 'x2'.
