I've been running my servers on Linux for the past year, but I'm afraid I'm still a Linux nub. I know I should never run a server as root, however, every time I try to run HLDS as anything other than root, I have problems. This is the last thing I tried.rnrn1. Created a user, "hlds", with home directory "/path/hlds_l"rnrn2. Change ownership on the hlds_l directory, "chown hlds /path/hlds_l"rnrn2. Changed the start line in my scripts to be "sudo -u hlds screen etc."rnrnIt appears to start fine, runs with no errors, but I get weird things happening, like half the bots stay dead and won't spawn. Similar to the problem that SturmBot had with para maps after DOD 1.0 was released, or the problem I had with the Stamina plugin before diamond fixed it. If anyone has any ideas what is going on here, or what I need to do to get this working, I'd be grateful.
