well after replacing the HD that went bad in THIS thread with a 500gb SATA drive.. nnim having WORSE problems with that drive now..nngave me delayed write failed errors now and then.. now last night after getting the error (was the 1st time i got it in 3 days, i thought it was gonna be fine till it happened again) i waited till all the error popups stopped, then i closed everything and rebooted..nnnow the drive wont show up in windows... the bios shows it, device manager shows it as well.. but its disabled and when i try to enable it in device manager it fails with a code 22 error.. it also doesnt show up in my computer at all.. so i cant even use the recovery program i have to save the data on it..nnits pretty much looking like ive lost about 400gb of data...nnand of course its the drive with all my important stuff on it.. totally not replaceable lol.. nnand if i've truly lost it all.. there no way im starting from scratch again.. so it would be the end of all my plugins.. the end of my clan & server... and it basically makes this new pc a huge waste of money :(

Stop buying Maxtor drives! ;)n nSeriously...you didnt learn to backup after your first crash? There are a bunch of free services that allow online backups. http://www.mediamax.com/ gives you 25gigs of free space online. Even better is a second HDD that you have a second copy on. n nAll my plugins are in at least 3 places (my computer, the gameservers scripting folder, and on a folder in my website). n nHell you could even email them to yourself...they are pretty small.n nSucks about the drive. You could try the old "freezing it" trick...dunno if it will help or not, but its worth a shot. Stick the drive in the freezer for about an hour then pop it in. If it works you have a short bit of time to get your data off.n nAnother thing you should do first is get the manufacturers tools and run a test on it. It will tell you exactly whats wrong with it. Another tool I highly recommend is Hirens Boot CD. I use that at work all the time. It has a ton of different utilities on it such as spinrite. You can get that in the "usual places." n nGood luck =(

well its a western digital drive lol.. last time i buy one of them i can tell you that...nn25gb of online storage isnt enough lol.. and you have any idea how long it would take to upload like 400gb somewhere... and wouldnt you know.. this week i was gonna get another 500gb drive and move the stuff off it.. but i didnt have the time to make it to the store 'yet' :(nnthis freezer thing? is that bullshit lol? how do you put it in there so it gets ZERO moisture on/in it??nni tried western digital's diagnostic tools (which showed 0 errors a few days ago) but they dont even see the drive there and it only lets me select my primary (c:) drive... I tried emailing their support.. tho i doubt they will be of any help...nni also do have spinrite.. ill try that tonight probably, but spinrite didnt work on my old hard drive and it didnt work on my brothers hard drive that he had problems with i guess..

fucking wierdnnbut IT SHOWS UP AND WORKS!!!!!nnni tried switching power cables, sata cables & ports.. nothing..nnthen i took an SATA->IDE convertor i had.. guess what... It works everything seems to be there..nnso there must be something wrong with the sata, maybe drivers.. maybe windows needs to be reinstalled.. idk.. but PHEW!!!

ok the strange gets stranger...nnni uninstalled the nForce chipset drivers.. and the drive works FINE on sata thru the default windows drivers...nni reinstall the chipset drivers.. and it stops working...nnnwtf is that shit

Quick question, what do you have that is over 500 gigs. Like I have 4 different servers file backups, 3 Different Site backups with about 10 forums backups, about 1000 photoshoped files and their corresponding picture and all my school work. That takes about 40 gigs, so I'm kinda scared to ask what takes so much damn space for you.

nnthe 3 bigger directories:nn124gb of assorted music (75gb being lossless)n90gb of just phish related audio/videon110gb of videos/moviesnni moved some stuff off the drive, but its pointless lol.. only free'd up like 15gb lol

probably gonna reformat and reinstall XP tonight..nnas it seems something is wrong with the registry..nnnnoticing a lot of little settings and such have been reset, along with most of my programs show up as unregistered (which i'd think would be a sign that something happened to the registry)

BTW, my point about the online backup wasnt for music/videos etc. Its only for important files such as plugins, documents etc.

ya i have an SVN i use for most of my plugins.. but i havent committed and updates to it lately as ive been busy with all this computer stuff (well and playing games lol)nni usually also keep backups of my plugins on a USB thumb drive, but recently i needed to use it for something else so i took my plugins off it
